Open source wedding

Welcome to the first (that we know of) open source wedding!

Me & Brian at my 32rd birthday (2003) Although we find many aspects of the traditional patriarchal idea of marriage objectionable, we hope to help redefine the institution by showing there’s another way to be “husband and wife.” One of the reasons to get married, and not just live in a committed domestic partnership, is that declaring our union in such a public way signifies the importance of the community in our relationship.

Or to put it another way: if it was just about us, we’d elope. This wedding is for us, but also for you – our friends and families. We hope you enjoy it emotionally, mentally, and physically. We expect The Main Event to take place in the summer of 2006.

We hope this website will be a tool for collaboration between each other, but also between all of you participants in our partnership with the community. Plus, we really need your help! Got a suggestion for a caterer? Know of some helpful websites? Want to help us organize the best party of our lives? You can contribute your ideas in many ways here.

As the planning gets into high gear, we will be using the site to share the latest information and wedding plans and will also be adding more ways for you to participate online.

Some of the things you can do on this website right now:

  • Read and comment on our blog entries.
  • Write your own blog. It doesn’t have to be about us! ;-)
  • Create or contribute to a collaborative document (or “book”).
  • Start a poll.
  • Schedule an event.
